How would you describe your Ayurveda Dharma?
It is definitely related to education and sharing. I've come to understand how to join those two through consultations (with sliding scale payment options), online teaching offerings (in Spanish, little content is available), and sharing tips & tricks to friends, family or whoever might benefit from a quick chat about something that might improve their life. My dharma comes through acknowledging that Ayurveda is a science and as such must be practiced in order to be proven and shared. Not withholding information, letting go of the egotistic notion that I must put a price on every bit of information I give people, diving deep into gratefulness for being able to have and share this knowledge.
What interests or work do you pursue outside of Ayurveda?
I'm a Psychologist licensed in Panama. I see clients regularly and offer therapy through the ancient practices of yoga & ayurveda. I also created an online yoga platform with over 100 classes pre recorded. Weekly private yoga clients.
What’s your favorite dinacharya these days?
Always & forever tongue scraping, hot water and intentional movement (sometimes it's yoga, pilates, or spinning) in the AM. Those are non negotiable. They give me this sensation of ultra cleanliness, which my Pitta self really enjoys. I've seen incredible changes to daily digestion and overall gut health. It's easy, it's quick, it's efficient. I ebb & flow between Garshana and Abhyanga, depending on how my mind feels. Close the day with some oil on my feet.
What’s your tidbit of advice or mantra to share with a student of Ayurveda?
Don't be so rigid with your routines, don't be so hard on yourself. Give yourself the space to dance through the constant shifting of our surroundings, bodies & mind. Get to know YOU before you start giving advice. This will deepen your trust and understanding, producing an overall energy of grounding knowledge.
What’s your personal strategy for the Fall transition this year (and why?)
I'll be assisting Kate O'Donnell in her yearly Fall cleanse. After all has been cleansed out and everyone is back home doing their solo thing... you'll catch me doing ALL THE ABHYANGA! It's been a very Chala (mobile) year, traveling and living off suitcases, my 4 year old had surgery, pandemic mode...all those have really aggravated Vata for me. Fall & Winter can be rough on my already tricky Pitta - Vata constitution and I have a hard time regulating body temperature (especially hands and feet), getting deep restful sleep, good digestion (I lose appetite, but eat anyways, and that creates big issues) if I don't manage Vata from the start of the shifting of the seasons. Plus, my new apartment has an amazing bathtub! That's where this Ayur-nerd will be spending the cold days ahead.
